2K Games has appointed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Change Comes After Mixed Reception

Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to the game's lackluster early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet community desires.

Trend of Key Hires

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to contribute to the beloved franchise development group.

I know you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The community feedback from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It uncovered the need for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its promise to our players.

The belief in this project increases every day. To further the outstanding development you’ve made, I am thrilled to introduce Ben Brinkman as the new Director of the team. Following a period of discussions, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and leading some of the most popular titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

Brinkman currently holds the position of senior developer and head of production at the renowned studio for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the iconic franchise series, and, prior to that, had assignments at other industry leaders.

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. At the time, 31st Union described the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an innovative step forward on the genre."
